Course overview
This course exposes exactly how the IRS examines the “expense” side of the business bookkeeping ledger. We will discuss a number of the key expenses claimed by the typical business (mileage, home office, travel, etc.) that are generally problematical. We explain exactly what the IRS looks at when challenging such expenses. Then we explain the six methods approved by the U.S. Tax Court for satisfactorily proving the legitimacy of a claimed business deduction. A key element of this session will focus on “reconstructing” expenses under the Cohan doctrine.
